  2. Hi Brooks! I thought the lesson was great! Not to worry, I wasn't put to sleep! :)

Actually there were some points which I already knew, for instance, the parts about being clear and concise, giving appreciation once again at the end of the letters, as well as the buffer lines before announcing the bad news.

So, while your group was teaching, I was eagerly looking to improve on the points that I didn't know before today. One of the many points that I learnt today was the need to use two instead of one emails if there are two different issues.

Finally, I agree with Brad that there could have been more interaction between the presenters and the rest of the class. Once again, thanks for the informative lesson today.

  3. Hi Team 1!

Thank you for the informative lesson today.

It is always tough being the first team to present and you guys did well!

I agree with Brad that there could have been more classroom interaction. People do not really have long attention spans when faced with lengthy lecture materials. Some form of interaction would allow the speaker to capture the attention of the audience at critical points in the presentation.

All in all, it was a very informative session for me as i really learned alot. Discovered many things I did not know through this session.

    See you guys around!

  4. Your presentation was very useful for me. I learned a lot from it. I look forward to getting your PowerPoint slides :)

Yup. It should have more interaction. However, I understand that it is difficult since the time was not enough... That's what I am worried now for our group's presentation next week...

Here is my comment :D There are quite a few problems which make your slides look inconsistent. For example:
    "XYZ:
    + Abcdef
    + abcdef."
Each abcdef should have the same format (capitalize/don't capitalize the first word; have/don't have a dot at the end...). It should be this instead:
    "XYZ:
    + Abcdef
    + Abcdef"

The fonts used by the first and the third presenters are not the same :D

I also talked about this during the activity: in a sentence, it should be a dot, comma, question mark... and then a space instead of a space and then a dot/comma/question mark.
For example: "My name is Hong. I am a student." instead of "My name is Hong .I am a student ."

Haha, maybe I'm a Computing girl so I'm a bit sensitive with the format haha. Sorry sorry. I'm sure I'm not an old-auntie :D

    And then question :D

During the last part on good/bad news, in the last example about overseas volunteer program, there was a sentence which means the unsuccessful applicant is a very good candidate (!). It said that he could be a leader of other YEP trips. If he was really good, he would be accepted for the program for sure. They rejected him, which means he didn't have enough skills... In that case, the program officer should not commend that he was a "potential-leader". Appreciating his kindness to be involved in a volunteer program was more than enough. Moreover, the program officer also asked the unsuccessful applicant to feel free to ask more on the other YEP trips. Would the officer reply if that applicant really replied back and asked? I remember in your speech, you said the purpose of the email was to minimize the future replies. But in this case, there would be high chances that that unsuccessful applicant would reply back immediately. Did you contradict yourselves?

I think it is enough for my post :D Thanks thanks :D

  5. Hi ,Yong Feng !
Thank you for your encouragement! You suggest that we should pay more attention to what others are less likely to be familiar with ,which is very helpful. We do waste time on something that has already well-known to you. What should be short and what should be in detail ,this is an important question before we make our lesson plan .
As to the interaction between us ,we three are mainly worried about the limited time, so we just conduct one activity in total. What you said just gives me inspiration, we can give more activities and then the basic rules or principles can be given by the audience. Thanks again for your valuable suggestion ! :-)

  6. Hi Edmund !
Thank you for your addvice! When I think of the presentation yesterday, I think we three seem to have technical thought. So we tend to give a more logic and serious presentation, which is short of vivid explanation and interaction with the audience. We will try to alter our mind to fit different demands. Activities during presentation do make it more effective to deliver the opinions. Thanks again for your suggestion! :-)

  7. Hi Hong !
Thanks for your comment of high quality. I will upload the PPT file in IVLE when I am authorized.
The format is really a question in my presentation. When I skim through my slides again, I am abashed at the confusing format. The use of dot, comma, question mark is also of great help to me. I think format is important when writing, and it can help deliver clearer information. :-)

I will ask Neo to discuss about your last question. :-)I will also edit this post to add what I learned from this presentation. Thanks a lot for your kind and helpful suggestion! :-)

  8. Hi Team 1!

Thank you for the lesson. I think that all of you have done a good job. I can imagine how hard it would be to present as the 1st team. With so much uncertainty, three of you still managed to provide us a complete lesson. I really learned a lot from your team.

Another thing I would like to mention here is the importance of having more classroom interaction. Today the 2nd team did it and I found that it was really more effective and interesting.

    Thanks :D.

  9. Hi Team 1,
Thank you for your efforts! I think your team has done a good job as the nice start of our peer teaching sessions. Your slides have a clear organization and obviously your team has prepared a lot for this teaching session.
Besides all, I think it would be a better presentation if you could show your audenice the examples you provide instead of just reading them out. Sometimes, we may not hear them very clearly and if you could print them on the slides, we could have a reference to look at.
    Thanks.
