Interpersonal conflict in a team

Several months ago, we formed a team to make a research about how the waste goes after thrown into the bin. I was elected as the team leader later. Before long, we gathered to discuss about the project. Everyone got his task.

But I found Jack wasn't so interest in his work during the next few days. Jack came from another class and I was not familiar with him. So I gave him a rather easy job. I didn't know why he showed little interest. Had I done something wrong? I need a talk with him. So I wrote an email.

Another question came. He explained he was busy these days in the email. He seemed to avoid this talk. "Is this just an excuse or it is real?" I didn't know. He also comforted me, "the work is easy for me and I am able to finish it in last few days." his work was easy, but it was the prerequisite for some other work. Obviously, he refused my invitation.

Then I tried to ask some other teammates to know more about him. But they all didn't know why.  I intended to contact some of his friends, but I didn't know how to set about. Finally, due to the time limit, I had to do his part myself.

Then I came across Wang, one of Jack's best friends, last month. When we talked about Jack, he told me the truth. "Jack complained to me about the project. He thinks the job is too easy for him. He just wants to do something more difficult."I have made a serious mistake that I assumed everything entirely according to my opinion.

what I've learned from the 1st peer teaching

Neo ,Leo and I conducted peer teaching yesterday. It is about business email/letter/good&bad news. I've learned a lot from it.

I borrowed several books from HSSML and also searched the internet for useful materials. And I found the website "mindtools",which also appears in the reading materials Brad gives us,  is useful. I happen to find some blogs creating by our seniors who have also learned ES2007S. Their suggestion is also very helpful. As I am from China, I also referred to a few materials written in Chinese, but just a few. :-)

I think slides should be simple and make vital points, which are not familiar to most of the audience, highlighted. Besides, charts and graphs are also necessary in your slides. To make it more effective to deliver your ideas, you can turn to interesting activities for help. So your audience will learn by themselves from the activities, and come up with useful conclusion themselves. Thus the points make deeper impression on them. Activities like Find Mistake, Answer Questions, Play Game, Watch Video, and putting on a show can help make the presentation more impressed.

In addition, rehearsing is necessary for a successful presentation. You can find more accurate and vivid expressions. You will also have a better sense of time during presentation. Interrogative sentences sometimes can help capture attention of the audience and make your points ourstanding, which is also very useful.

That's what I have thinked of so far. Thanks again for your support! I really like our class culture,"free to interaction and happy to be with each other". :-)

why effective communication skills are important for me

As the picture shows ,effective communication skills have great significance to us .Now I mainly express my opinions about the contribution they make to help realize our dream .
Add caption
The first question is that, what is effective communication ? It is essential to our topic today .
According to the 7C's theory ,effective communication should be clear, concise, concrete, correct, consistent, complete, and courteous .Above all ,when we communicate with others ,we should have an U-attitude ,which means we should care more about the listeners or readers ,and respect them . Everyone llike effective communication ,but fewer people can really conduct effective communication .We need to acquire these skills to help us . Effective communication help us express our meanings and know better about others .

Good communication can improve our understanding of others .If we have effective communication ,we can get enough information about what we are to do ,why we should do these things ,and nearly everything from the outside .If we understand what others mean through effective communication ,we will do the right thing in a right way with right person.Of course we are deserved to get a right result ,which is what we pursue all the way .When I added this course ES2007S several days ago ,I was told to fill in a form .Due to lack of effective communication with the officer ,I just received the form and filled as I guessed . I wrote the date in a blank ,which turned out to be wrong . It should be written by teachers ! Then I had to rewrite the form and it wasted time .If I had communicated with her more effictively ,I would understand what to do and what not to do ,which will make it easier to fulfill my purpose .

Besides, good communication can make us understood by others .We always want others to understand our feelings ,problems ,demands or something else .There is no access to the ideal situation except through effective communication with others .let's just make an asume that you work in a company and are not satisfied with your salary .How can you make your manager know your thoughts and increase your salary ? This needs effective communication and you need effective communication skills .With a better understanding of communication ,we are to achieve our dreams faster and easier .

In addition ,good communication contribute to our good relationship with others .People tend to be with friends who know him better .Easy-going people are welcomed everywhere .If you can communicate with others effectively ,you are easier to know other people's feelings and thoughts ,therefore you are likely to make more friends ,have a better relationship with your family ,your boss ,etc.

From what we discuss above ,I come up with the concludion that effective communication skills are very important to me .I must do my best to aquire effective communication skills to make further success .

A Brief Introduction to Myself

Hello everyone !
I am Brooks Chen ,an exchange student from Tsinghua University ,China .I am very glad to have class Professional Communication this semester .I think English is very important and the learning process is full of challenges and sense of achievement .
I am eager to try out new things and I always persuade myself to experience things I've never experience before .No matter what you try ,you'll learn something  and grow , as long as you try your best .
I like sports ,which more or less belong to some kind of  light sports ,like long running ,table tennis ,badminton ,swimming ,etc .Reading books and listening music are also my hobbies .I learn to be persistent and confidence when I take exercise ,I learn to be quiet and learn to enjoy the beautiful imaginary scenery when I listen to music , I get to know more people's experience and stories when I read books .In a word ,my hobbies enrich my daily life and help me make friends with people have the same interest with me .
I believe we will have a good time this term ,Not only will we improve our English communication skills ,but also we will develop deep friendship with each other .Come on ,my friends ! Live a happy life and make progress with friends everyday~   :-)
